Ahipara House

Nestled in the hills of Ahipara—at the southern end of Ninety Mile Beach on Northland's west coast—this steep site enjoys breathtaking views of the Tasman Sea to the north and the iconic Te Kōhanga (Shipwreck Bay) to the west, renowned for its world-class surf break.

The design features two pavilions set at different levels, carefully positioned to capture the stunning views and maximise sunlight.

The form and materiality draw inspiration from New Zealand's coastal vernacular, particularly the classic bach, symbolizing simplicity and practicality. Clad in Abodo Vulcan Sioo:x, the house is grounded in its natural surroundings, with tones that echo the coastal landscape.
