Glenbrook Development
In 2021, Arkhe was commissioned by an Auckland-based housing developer to produce a series of modern and bespoke homes for a proposed new coastal development in Glenbrook.
The elongated site stretches along the north-south axis, enjoying views of the Waiuku River and Glenbrook Beach to the south and the Tahiki River to the north.
Limited net building areas and coastal erosion setbacks demanded smart spatial planning, creating multi-functional spaces, giving flexibility to end-users, and maximising connection with outdoor spaces to enhance a sense of volume.
Although unique in form, layout, and scale, the designs all share a common architectural language: natural materials, such as timber weatherboards and relaxed roof forms with generous openings, conversing with cues from the coastal environment.
